Gender Reveal!
Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful day so far. We have some exciting news that we found out Wednesday after school that I would like to share with everyone. But before I do, the doctor said Elizabeth is looking healthy and normal at this stage in her pregnancy, the doctor also said the little one is looking normal at this stage. Perhaps the baby is a little taller based on his estimated leg length. So Praise God for helping Elizabeth and the little one!
First, I would like to also thank all of my colleagues at Macau Anglican College who wore blue and pink this past Thursday for the big news. That meant a lot to me and I wish I could have gotten a picture of all of us together. But it was definitely a busy day. May God bless all of you and it’s been great being part of your team!
We are very grateful to be living in Macau and eventually, Hong Kong, where they are allowed to tell the gender of the baby. It is illegal to find out the gender of your baby in Mainland China due to a traditional Chinese idea that it is better to have a son as your first child and many Chinese used to abort baby girls. I do not think many Chinese hold to this belief anymore, but it is still a law of the land. However apparently, it is not as straightforward in Macau either. We contacted Kiang Wu 鏡湖醫院 and MUST 科大醫院, they apparently do not perform ultrasounds to reveal the baby’s gender. Instead, they have some blood tests that check for several different illnesses or diseases, which will also include the baby’s gender. Though this is not without its own set of problems, since Macau is so small, they do not have the proper facilities that can handle these blood tests. They need to send off the blood tests to Hong Kong and the public hospital said it would probably take around a month to get the results back. That being said, the blood test is also considerably more expensive than an ultrasound.
Thankfully a friend of ours recommended a private clinic that specializes in pregnancies and she was so kind and patient with us. Maya Clinic on Macau side has some of the best bedside manners in Macau in terms of doctors and hospitals. I would highly recommend them if anyone local or blue card holder lives in Macau and is going to have their baby in Macau.
Now, time for the big reveal! Yes, the Howard family will have another baby boy! It was somewhat of a surprise, but we all are still happy! Thankfully we can start narrowing down the name list and I think we have decided on
