Beginning of Something Amazing

•October 17, 2012 • Leave a Comment

The last several weeks have been confusing for me. I have heard stories of teenagers who are hurting involving their families, their relationships and their mental health. In fact I have begun to loose focus of the number one reason I wanted to join the teaching profession. Thoughts of gloom and hopelessness began to invade my mind. It even began to manifest in my words and I began to say things like these children are never going to get it or this generation is completely lost. It is kind of funny that before church tonight I said to one of the youth group staff members that this generation is lost beyond saving and if America continues to go down this path of corruption and immorality, that maybe we as a country do not deserve to be number one in the world. Perhaps countries like Brazil, Australia and China deserve to be in the world’s limelight because they are experiencing a revival like no other in this century.

God has reminded me tonight that revival is a spiritual manifestation of His presence on His people. God’s presence knows no boundaries and it is His will that He dwells among His creation. God has shown me that we are going to have to sacrifice and have to prioritize the things of God. Tonight we saw God’s power straight on and three of the teens gave their hearts to the Lord. All it takes is dedication and prayer! This generation will see God and all we have to remember is that we have to continue to pray for God’s grace and mercy to overflow mankind. This is something that I want to bring to E.E. Smith and show the teens at this school! I believe God has sent me there for a reason and God wants to dwell just as much at E.E. Smith as He does at Northwood Temple Academy or Pine Forest or even Micky D’s! Praise God!

The Rape of Nanking- Audio Book

Being a Chinese minor at my university, Chinese culture, language and history really fascinate me. In fact, if I could change my major and start all over, I probably would change it to East Asian Studies. While I was in Shanghai this past June-July, I discovered a new movie called “The Flowers of War”. Apparently this movie was based on some of the writings of a female Chinese author named Iris Chang. The movie was extremely touching and I believe it portrays an accurate depiction of the Japanese occupation of Nanking, China. After watching the movie a couple of times, I decided that I wanted to hear a more historical definitive account. I searched Amazon for the Rape of Nanking, written by Iris Chang. Unfortunately I am currently reading two books and I did not think it would be wise to begin another book. So I decided to go the audio book route. I have breezed through the first couple chapters and it is definitely a must read. The author has decided to incorporate three perspectives into her work, the Japanese perspective, the Chinese etc. I will write another post once I have completed the book, but for now I still recommend this book. Enjoy!

Clever Campaign Ad

•October 15, 2012 • Leave a Comment

This presidential campaign has been going on for months (it actually seems like a good year) and it has been really aggravating me. Especially the fact that both candidates have spent well over ONE BILLION dollars in campaigning. I am actually fed up with both political parties because ultimately I believe the Democratic and Republican party are no longer out for the interest of the American people, except the American ELITE.

Lately I have been looking more into a 3rd party to caste my vote for in this November’s election. Despite the fact that I have been discouraged with both parties, I still follow the news and debates because it pertains to the further of our country. The parties have been trying their best to push all kinds of propaganda and today during the Civics course that I have been teaching, we were discussing different types of Propaganda. So yesterday when I was browsing the internet for good sources of political TV ads and commercials dealing with consumer products, I stumbled across this ad. Apparently this ad has not been publicized too much because Sesame Street actually contacted the Obama campaign and asked them to remove this commercial. Anyways I have to give President Obama major props for how clever this ad is. The commercial is actually referring to a comment made by Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney during the first Presidential Debate two weeks ago.

I was on Facebook earlier checking out a group that my classmates from Fudan had created to help keep in touch. Well anyways I thought this was a pretty clever little video and it made me laugh. Judging from the subtitles it was probably made in Taiwan! Their pronunciation is actually extremely good and if you can remember this song, I thought it’ll teach you several useful phrases. Enjoy!

Keizoku 2: Spec Movie Trailer

•October 7, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Mysteries and police dramas have increasingly become a popular way of how I spend a large amount of my free time. I have been watching everything from episodes of Poirot on PBS to episodes of the new Sherlock Holmes from the BBC. These mysteries or police dramas would also include E.U. (Emergency Unit) a Hong Kong police drama, Boss season 1 and season 2 (another Japanese police drama). But one of my favorite police dramas is one called Keizoku which is a mix of detective stories, scifi and humor. If I could explain it to something that westerners may be familiar with, I would say its a funny Japanese X-Files dealing with people with supernatural abilities, even though I never watched X-Files. Keizoku 2 has actually been out for quite sometime, but the movie is more recent. I have been watching the torrent sites for sometime concerning this movie, but unfortunately I am not sure when it will be released to DVD. I occasionally watch the trailer since I cannot see the movie. With the movie still being new, my guess is it will not be available to download or purchase from YesAsia for a few more months.

Erika Toda- Photo Compliments of Withfriendship.com

I’ll be honest with you all and say that Erida Toda is a major plus to the show! In fact if it was not for her, I would not have discovered Boss, Keizoku or Liar Game. I first discovered her when I watched the live action of Death Note and since then I have been a huge fan of Erika Toda.

This is just a quicky tonight, but I wanted to propose some questions for my readers! What shows do you like with Erika Toda in? What are your favorite JDramas period? Is there a series you think I should watch? Who is your favorite Japanese actor/actress? Just leave a comment! I am looking forward to your feedback!

Example of a Brain Neuron

Today was an amazing day teaching! As part of my student teaching, I am teaching a AP Psych class and two Civics courses. My students have been doing okay in AP Psych and I figured that building an edible neuron was a good way of rewarding my students! I took pictures of all five group projects and decided to dedicate this blog entry to their hard work! My sister has actually done this project with her Biology class, but it was a different kind of cell. I think they did a pretty impressed job, plus it was a great excuse to eat!

Monsters Calling Home

Last night was consumed with working on papers and lesson plans, but as I was searching YouTube for videos pertaining to the Executive Branch for my Civics class, I stumbled upon this commercial for Honda. Indie music or groups that are less mainstream are turning up more on my iPod and after watching the music video that Honda was advertising along with their car, I immediately went to iTunes store. I think this group has a great sound, especially the lead singer and lead female singer. I really enjoy independent talent and I am a huge advocate for independent artists. Hope you enjoy the music recommendation!

Thanks Selvie!!! 😉

My birthday was May 20th and I was in China at the time. A friend of mine mailed me this birthday card and apparently my mom and or sister lost this card! I thought it had been lost in the mail but my mother was searching through her paperwork yesterday and she stumbled across some mail of mine from the time I was in China! So I just wanted to thank my good friend Selvie from Indonesia personally! Your card was very sweet and I greatly appreciate your friendship! May God richly bless you and your family Selvie!!

Hellenistic Festival

This is the church where the Hellenistic Festival was held on 614 Oakridge Avenue in Fayetteville, NC

Greek Flag

These are traditional Greek wedding cookies

This guy was amazing on that guitar looking instrument. Incredible

These were the back up singers/ instrumentals.

I am glad they set up a tent because it was really hot

The women apparently sit away from the men and vice versa. The pastor of the church said Jewish people also do the same thing.

I think it is safe to say that every nation on earth has some version of fried dough! This stuff was good though! Especially with the walnuts and honey.

Jesus of Nazareth!!! ^ ^

I have always had such an amazing amount of respect for stained glass.

I have never seen a sanctuary like this one before. Never

This was one of the most unique parts of their sanctuary
